Twenty-nine

On the eve of my 29th birthday I find myself alone and feeling reflective.  At what age do birthdays begin to elicit such a response, I wonder?  Certainly in my early twenties getting older was merely an excuse to celebrate. Now though, at the ripe old age of not-even-thirty-yet, at 17.58 on a Wednesday evening,Continue reading “Twenty-nine”

Writing about multiple sclerosis does not always come so easily to me. Nagging thoughts tiptoe through my mind every time I merely mention it online – you’re giving it too much attention, other people are going to think you have nothing else going on…
A few July moments, ft a couple of good reads and a selfie from today's swim because I hadn't been in months and would like to document the momentous feat that is 10 lengths in 20 minutes #SlowLaneLife ☀️
It's hot. I feel like it's an appropriate time to recommend #SilentEarth by @dave.goulson (➡️) - I've been a member of the @scottishgreenparty since 2019, but until reading this book I admit I hadn't quite grasped the urgency of the situation that we are in, nor the bleakness of the future that we are sleepwalking towards. It's incredibly overwhelming to pull our heads out of the sand, and to feel like we have any power as one individual (particularly one chronically ill and disabled individual), but more of us doing the "small" things can only ever add up, right? I've made a list of things I'm going to (continue to) do, including - planting pollinator-friendly plants in pots outside my flat, speaking to our estate manager about planting wildflowers and not mowing the lawns so frequently, buying seasonal and local produce as much as I can, only buying 2nd-hand clothes, finding a community initiative to volunteer with, ALWAYS VOTING GREEN, writing to local government and my MP (with particular focus on the use of pesticides, and ecology in the school curriculum), and educating myself about local wildlife, so that I can pass on a love of and passion for our beautiful planet to the next generation. I may have very limited energy, but there is literally nothing more important than playing my tiny role in salvaging what we have left. As someone living with MS it's easy to feel disheartened by how little I might be able to contribute (beyond speaking about #Ecoableism), but I realised recently that my lifestyle lends itself nicely to a low impact life - I spend most of my time in and around my home - and that actually, everyone needs to learn how to live within a smaller footprint 🌿 Anyway, you should read this book. Especially parts 4 and 5. Happy heatwave ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Thirteen years. Might have swapped the Smirnoff Ices for a walking stick but clearly I've still got the moves💃
Enjoying their Miss Havisham phase 🥀
There are always flowers for those who want to see them, even through the dense, dark fog of disabling fatigue. Or something.
